L’été est enfin arrivé et le personnel des camps de l’Armée du Salut se prépare à accueillir des enfants de milieu défavorisé et à leur faire vivre une expérience inoubliable.

Récemment, le capitaine Rick Zelinsky, directeur général des camps de l’Armée du Salut en Ontario, a fourni un aperçu des nombreux avantages que les enfants retirent des camps de vacances dans le cadre d’une interview à SalvationArmy.ca.

Quel est l’objectif  du ministère des camps de l’Armée du Salut?

Le ministère des camps de l’Armée du Salut permet aux familles dans le besoin d’envoyer leurs enfants dans des camps de vacances. Les enfants vivent parfois des situations difficiles à la maison et la gentillesse et les encouragements des membres du personnel du camp contribuent à renforcer leur estime de soi.

Pourquoi envoyer votre enfant au camp?

Le camp d’été est une expérience unique qui change la vie des jeunes et leurs perspectives d’avenir pour toujours.

Les jeunes se font des amis, acquièrent de nouvelles connaissances et découvrent sur eux-mêmes des choses qu’ils ignoraient.

Pour un grand nombre d’entre eux, le camp est un refuge, un lieu sécuritaire où ils peuvent se comporter comme des enfants. En outre, ils ont la possibilité de pratiquer des activités qu’ils ne pourraient pas faire autrement, par exemple le vélo de montagne, l’escalade de rocher et le tir à l’arc.

À quoi ressemble la nourriture de camp?

Les activités sont conçues en fonction des différents groupes d’âge. En plus des activités, les jeunes raffolent notamment des feux de camp et des soirées thématiques.

L’Armée du Salut fait-elle un suivi avec les campeurs?

Cette année, nous enverrons des fiches de rendement aux familles et aux entités de l’Armée du Salut grâce à qui les enfants ont séjourné au camp. La fiche de rendement servira à mettre l’accent sur les réussites et à expliquer les lacunes, le cas échéant.

En milieu d’année, nous envoyons des cartes postales pour demeurer en contact avec les enfants et les inciter à revenir.

Depuis plus de 115 ans, chaque année, l’Armée du Salut envoie des enfants défavorisés dans ses camps de vacances. Au Canada, plus de 4 000 enfants séjournent dans des camps ou participent à des camps de jour.
