L’Armée du Salut poursuit sa lutte contre l’épidémie d’Ebola au Libéria

L’épidémie d’Ebola qui sévit actuellement est la pire de l’histoire et touche plusieurs pays d’Afrique occidentale. Selon l’Organisation mondiale de la santé, au cours des dernières semaines, environ 1 000 nouveaux cas ont été signalés, en moyenne, par semaine. Le taux de mortalité est maintenant estimé à 70%.

Interventions de l’Armée du Salut :

  • Du désinfectant, des gants, des masques et du chlore ont été distribués aux résidants des collectivités où l’Ebola est répandu.
  • Des colis de nourriture comprenant du riz, des haricots et de l’huile de cuisson ont été remis aux familles particulièrement démunies.
  • Du désinfectant et des vêtements protecteurs ont été fournis à des médecins qui combattent l’épidémie.
  • Le nombre de problèmes de santé causés par d’autres maladies est élevé, et la clinique William-Booth de l’Armée du Salut offre des médicaments essentiels aux personnes gravement atteintes.
  • L’Armée du Salut a accès à de nombreuses familles qui ont été mises en quarantaine, et distribue à celles-ci de l’eau potable, des colis de nourriture et des vêtements protecteurs.

L’Armée du Salut est implantée au Libéria depuis 25 ans. Elle y gère 12 écoles (que fréquentent 3 000 enfants), 6 garderies, 2 cliniques et 43 églises et centres d’évangélisation.
