Combattre la pauvreté chez les enfants en République démocratique du Congo

Selon de récentes études, dans le monde entier, quelque 400 millions d’enfants vivent dans la pauvreté extrême. Dans les pays en développement, la moyenne des habitants vivent avec 0,78 $CAD par jour. Ce phénomène contribue au travail des enfants et crée un cycle de la pauvreté qui se perpétue d’une génération à l’autre.

« Je m’appelle Akole. Je suis en quatrième année à l’école primaire Ngabidjo. Après le décès de mes parents, pendant la guerre, mon oncle, qui était militaire, a accepté de s’occuper de moi. Il m’a amenée à Kinshasa, mais malheureusement, il est mort dans un accident. L’Armée du Salut m’a prise sous son aile et je peux maintenant étudier. Je suis très reconnaissante à l’Armée du Salut. »

La pauvreté est l’un des nombreux problèmes complexes auxquels la République démocratique du Congo fait face. Des guerres civiles interminables ont aggravé les conditions de vie des habitants et causé une grande détresse chez des millions d’entre eux. Les enfants ont particulièrement été durement touchés. Un grand nombre ont perdu leurs parents, ne vont plus à l’école, souffrent de malnutrition et sont délaissés. Les traumatismes psychologiques – solitude, crainte, profond sentiment de perte – ont également de lourdes répercussions sur eux. En outre, de nombreux enfants ont été enlevés par les forces rebelles, qui en ont fait des enfants-soldats.

L’Armée du Salut administre sept écoles en République démocratique du Congo, à l’aide du programme de parrainage d’enfants Brighter Futures, offert grâce à la générosité de nos donateurs. Mingomba fréquente l’école primaire Flambeau et traverse des moments très difficiles. Sa mère se meurt à petit feu du sida et est incapable de travailler. Son mari est décédé de la même maladie. Elle peut difficilement acheter des produits de base et il n’y a certainement pas suffisamment d’argent pour payer les frais de scolarité. Oscar et 14 autres enfants fréquentent régulièrement l’école Flambeau et travaillent dur à se bâtir un avenir meilleur.

« Je m’appelle Mingoba. Je suis en quatrième année à l’école primaire Ngabidjo. Mon père vient de mourir du sida, et ma mère est séropositive. Elle s’occupe de moi mais est trop faible pour travailler. Elle n’a pas les moyens de payer mes frais de scolarité. Grâce à l’Armée du Salut, je peux étudier dans de bonnes conditions.
