L’Armée du Salut accueille le premier ministre

Le 25 août dernier, quelque 500 personnes se sont massées dans le stationnement de la citadelle Suncoast de l’Armée du Salut, à Goderich, en Ontario, pour accueillir le premier ministre du Canada qui a pris part à notre campagne de sacs à dos à l’intention des enfants de Huron County.

« Les Canadiens se soutiennent dans les moments difficiles. C’est leur nature, leur façon d’être. L’Armée du Salut a sans contredit les mêmes valeurs », dit le premier ministre Trudeau.

Au pays, un enfant sur sept vit dans une famille à faible revenu. Grâce à ce programme, ces jeunes ont tous les outils nécessaires pour réussir à l’école.

« Nous aiderons plus de 300 élèves, dit le lieutenant David Hickman de l’Armée du Salut de Goderich. Les enfants provenant de milieux défavorisés craignent la rentrée des classes, car ils ont peur d’être différents des autres élèves. Notre programme permet d’apaiser leur peur. »

Le premier ministre a discuté avec l’ensemble des personnes présentes tout en remplissant les sacs à dos de calculatrices, de règles, de cahiers d’exercice, de marqueurs, de stylos et de crayons.

En partant, M. Trudeau a remercié le personnel et les nombreux bénévoles dévoués pour leur travail.

« Afin de vivre dans un pays prospère, tous méritent d’avoir la chance de croiser des gens comme vous. Par votre générosité, vos efforts et votre engagement, vous personnifiez ce qu’il y a de mieux dans cette collectivité et dans notre pays. Je vous remercie très sincèrement. »
