La Course du Père Noël de l’Armée du Salut aide les personnes vulnérables à vivre dans la dignité

Le samedi 6 décembre, dans 41 villes à travers le Canada, quelque 16 000 coureurs aideront à changer des vies et à soutenir des familles vulnérables qui vivent dans la pauvreté.

En partenariat avec le Coin des coureurs, la Course du Père Noël de l’Armée du Salut comprend une course de 5 km et la Marche des lutins (1 km). L’événement vise à recueillir des fonds pour les programmes sociaux et communautaires de l’Armée du Salut. Les participants sollicitent des promesses de dons auprès de leur famille et de leurs amis, et chaque coureur qui termine son parcours reçoit une magnifique médaille de la Course du Père Noël.

« L’Armée du Salut observe que malgré le fait que l’économie canadienne paraisse stable, il y a des milliers de personnes qui vivent dans la rue, qui sautent des repas afin de pouvoir payer leur loyer, ou qui ont faim », explique John McAlister, directeur national du marketing et des communications pour l’Armée du Salut. » En fait, un Canadien sur 10 vit dans la pauvreté. »

L’Armée du Salut offre espoir et dignité depuis 130 ans, grâce à la générosité de ses donateurs. L’an dernier, la Course du Père Noël a permis d’amasser plus de 500 000 $, qui ont servi à procurer un soutien concret et précieux aux démunis pendant les fêtes et tout au long de l’année.

« Je participe à la course parce que je sais qu’il y a des gens qui, sans cet événement, n’auraient pas les moyens de participer aux réjouissances du temps des fêtes, déclare Megan. Vous éprouvez un sentiment incroyable lorsque vous atteignez la ligne d’arrivée, non pas parce que vous avez fini la course, mais parce que vous avez redonné un peu de ce que vous avez reçu. »
