Les mardis soirs et les jeudis matins, Diane Perron, cuisinière de profession, met son tablier pour aider des jeunes et des moins jeunes à préparer trois recettes économiques.

« L’atelier de cuisine écono permet non seulement aux participants de rapporter chez eux douze portions de repas pour la semaine, mais aussi de motiver des personnes seules, en les amenant à sortir de chez elles et à interagir avec les autres », déclare Diane.

L’atelier de cuisine écono vise à montrer aux participants à cuisiner avec ce qu’ils ont, sans être obligés d’acheter de nouveaux ingrédients, qui peuvent parfois coûter cher. Ils apprennent également à adapter les recettes. Ils seront donc en mesure d’économiser quand ils devront cuisiner chez eux.

« Cet atelier a changé ma vie », affirme un participant. « J’ai appris à préparer des repas équilibrés avec des produits que j’avais à ma disposition, ce que j’avais beaucoup de difficulté à faire auparavant. »

« Je suis heureux de pouvoir préparer des repas sains et délicieux, à faible coût », ajoute Alexandre, père monoparental de trois enfants, qui a suivi l’atelier. « Les participants s’échangent des trucs et partagent des tâches. Certains ont l’occasion de pratiquer le français. C’est un excellent moyen de rompre l’isolement. »

Même si l’aspect économique est primordial pour la plupart des participants, l’atelier ne se limite pas à donner des trucs pour faire des économies d’argent. Il favorise notamment le développement d’un esprit communautaire et l’estime de soi. De nouveaux arrivants au Canada échappent à l’isolement et des personnes âgées se sentent revigorées en mangeant mieux.

« Il y a des avantages à plus d’un titre », conclut Diane. « Un peu d’aide peut apporter un changement bénéfique. »
