Il faut être présent auprès des enfants et de leur famille après leur séjour au camp, et ce, afin de cerner leurs besoins, de les appuyer et de faire partie intégrante de leur vie. »

Un grand nombre d’enfants proviennent de familles marginalisées, à faible revenu ou d’accueil. Leur passage au camp sera leur seul moment de répit de l’été. « Notre ministère et notre aide ne font que commencer au camp », indique la capitaine Gillingham.

Pendant la saison estivale, la capitaine et des intervenants formés pour travailler auprès des jeunes collaborent avec les services sociaux et d’aide à la famille pour veiller à ce que les liens créés avec les jeunes campeurs et leur famille se cimentent après leur visite au camp.

« Nous avons établi un système qui fait en sorte que l’Armée du Salut n’est pas uniquement présente pendant une semaine dans la vie des enfants, mais active tout au long de leur adolescence. Nous incitons les postes à envoyer des “compagnons” au camp avec les enfants, de sorte que lorsque les jeunes rentrent à la maison, un lien a été établi.
