Yolla possédait une entreprise florissante à Dartmouth, en Nouvelle-Écosse. Mais, le jour où ses fournisseurs ont commencé à augmenter leurs prix, elle a vu ses ventes chuter et a dû fermer boutique. Aujourd’hui, elle reçoit le soutien de l’Armée du Salut et se réjouit de ne pas être seule pour relever les défis que la vie lui envoie.

« Lorsque j’ai déposé le bilan, j’étais bouleversée. Je n’avais plus aucun revenu et n’arrivais pas à payer les factures. J’ai tout perdu – ma maison, mes meubles et mon estime de moi », raconte Yolla.

En conséquence, Yolla et ses quatre enfants ont emménagé dans un petit appartement. Yolla a trouvé un travail à temps partiel, mais elle ne gagnait que 12 $ l’heure. Ses maigres revenus lui permettaient à peine de nourrir sa famille. Dans ces conditions, elle ne pouvait plus payer pour les vêtements et les fournitures scolaires des enfants. Elle a donc fait appel à l’Armée du Salut.

« Les intervenants de l’Armée du Salut m’ont dit : “Nous serons toujours là pour t’aider”. Cela m’a redonné espoir. »

À l’Armée du Salut, Yolla reçoit des paniers de nourriture ainsi que des vêtements et du matériel scolaire pour ses enfants.

« Parfois, mon fils me voit pleurer et me demande ce qui m’arrive. Je m’en veux tellement de ne pas pouvoir lui donner 5 $ pour qu’il puisse manger de la pizza à la cafétéria de l’école. Malheureusement, j’ai besoin de cet argent pour faire le plein et me rendre au boulot. »

« J’ai travaillé d’arrache-pied pour devenir entrepreneure, et du jour au lendemain, tout s’est envolé en fumée. Je n’aurais jamais cru que j’aurais recours à une banque alimentaire.

« Quand je rentre à la maison avec ma boîte de nourriture donnée par l’Armée du Salut et que mon fils me sourit, je suis heureuse. J’éprouve de grandes difficultés actuellement, mais je suis une femme forte et je sais que je vais refaire ma vie. »
